Change is in the Air
As our number of does living in the girls' pen dwindled, so did its usefulness. With only four rabbits remaining in this building, a new idea was formed. Dividers will be constructed to convert the house part into four separate, smaller rooms. These rooms will each hold a single doe and her litter, thus transforming the Girls' Pen into the new Nursery! We will try this for a year, and if we don't like the results, then we may start up the Girls' Pen once again. Hopefully this will give the mama's more room to raise their litters, and we won't have to worry about kits getting out of the nestbox and hurting themselves on the wire cages.

So what was the "Girls' Pen" before it was the Nursery?
The girl's pen with upgrades! We built a roof over the open section to prevent rain from getting in. With the new cement flooring, needed due to digging mishaps, cleaning is made much easier and living conditions are more sanitary for the rabbits. The main "people" door can latch open along with two windows on either side of the building to allow maximum air flow. The inside of the building is insulated and has a heat lamp for winter time.
Then there are the toys! A swimming pool filled with sawdust, hay, and other fun things we like to throw in there. Boxes filled with hay so they can live outside if they choose and still keep warm at night. We also have boards to make different lay-outs for a "bunny play land" (after one day of the layout they mainly just lay around on the boards), and we recently got metal pipes that they love to run through...

We also taught many important lessons to the girls:
Dove was a good choice if you have no other friends...
1. When picture day comes, always hide behind someone else. This will drive the picture taker crazy and leave them with a bunch of useless pictures.
Everyone loves a good salad! (Notice the center 2 "sharing" a leaf above!)
2. We all must share... or at least until someone isn't looking.
3. Come show day, run in circles with someone who looks like you... Maybe you won't have to go!
